APPEAL FOR MAXWELL
ultrasound and operation- cost >$1000
If you can help by donating towards Maxwell's care & operation
Please click on this link below for online donations and specify 'MAXWELL'

Maxwell had surgery at Sydney University Hospital. He has always had a terrible odour which has made it difficult to re-home him and even to find him a foster carer. He had previously been de-sexed before we rescued him from the pound, so it was a mystery as to what was the cause of his odour. Sydney University Clinic did an ultrasound and found that his second testicle was hiding behind a kidney and had been missed when he was originally de-sexed..mystery solved! That was the cause of his odour. Poor Maxwell! Michael at Puss n Boots says his odour is now resolving well. He is such a lovely smoochy boy, and a favourite with all the staff out there. His costs for treatment were >$1000
GOOD NEWS - 2/2/11 Maxwell has now been adopted by Laurell in West Pymble

Lil vomited in the morning but seemed ok after this. On returning from work I noticed she had vomited a large number of times. While I was cleaning these up she vomited again and started to look exhausted and distressed. I rushed her to Macarthur Veterinary Group (Mt Annan Vet) where she was given a Cerenia injection for the nausea. She was isolated for the night at home with only water.
21 August 2010
No water was drunk over night and Lil was lethargic. She was taken immediately to Mt Annan Vet where she was examined and given subcutaneous fluids. She also received a Convenia (Cefovecin) injection and sent home.
22 August 2010
Lil is now refusing food and water and is no longer purring. She does not want to be handled and is moving very slowly between her baskets. As Mt Annan Vet is closed Lil is taken to the Bradbury branch of Macarthur Veterinary Group. Lil is placed on an intravenous drip and I was told if she doesn't start to eat by the afternoon they would start blood tests. As she was still not responding well she was kept overnight.
23 August 2010
Lil was still not responding well enough so further blood tests were taken. She was also x-rayed. As she is a wriggler she was sedated and while out she passed a conical shaped object that may have been the cause of her difficulties. She was given radioactive "beads" so that xrays would show if her digestive system was working. I spent an hour with her after work she was almost herself except that she wouldn't eat for me or even look at the toys I brought for her from home. While I was there I was shown some x-rays that showed the "beads" were working their way through her system. There was also a large amount of gas in her system. When she was given the beads she was again sick so stayed in another night.
About 8pm that night she started to eat. The vet rang and was so excited. If Lil hadn't started to eat she would have been sent to ARH for an MRI.
24 August 2010
Lil had another x-ray taken to see where the "beads" were and then she was allowed home.
Lil has bounced back to her old self with the loudest purr and is the cuddliest cat again. She would become upset if I left the room for the first few hours but once she settled in she was fine. She is once again first to the door to be fed and telling me to get a move on! She also likes to sleep with the dog again, much to the dogs annoyance!
28 August 2010
Lil's vet rang advising that a specialist had viewed the films and is not convinced all is perfect. We should monitor her poos for a few days. Lil will be checked by her vet over the next few days to make sure that all is well.
January 2011
Lil is now back in good health with no ongoing problems and is hoping to find her furever home very soon.
Thank you to Macarthur Veterinary Group for all their love and care for our lovely Lil

eye surgery needed as a result of Cat Flu- cost $1300
If you can help by donating towards Azure's care & operation
Please click on this link below for online donations and specify 'AZURE'

The purpose of his surgery is to improve his comfort level. Dr Mark Billson, our expert ophthalmologist will be operating so we know he will be in good hands.
His surgery has been quoted at $1,000 - $1,500, depending on what Mark has to do. SASH continues to be a generous supporter of SPR&A’s rescue animals, subsidising the treatment of all our animals. We remain always grateful as this allows us to access necessary specialist care for our animals.
Azure has a wonderful home to go to with Karen, Mark and family at Jannali, who have already adopted Azure’s little sister Sox (now known as Ginny).
Funds are urgently needed to assist in covering the cost of Azure’s surgery.
4/2/10 - Azure had his surgery on 27.1.10. He has had 2 reviews since at Kirrawee vet and both Mark, the ophthalmologist and Bill, from Kirrawee vet are pleased with his progress.
Azure’s expenses for treatment, including specialist and other treatment are $1300. (after a generous subsidy from SASH)
Azure is due for another review with the ophthalmologist at the end of July
September 2011 - Azure has not had any more surgery, and is doing very well. He is being adopted by his foster carer
Our grateful thanks to Dr Mark Billson from Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) at North Ryde

If you can help by donating towards Ronin's care & operations, please click on this link below for online donations and specify 'RONIN'

He is staying with Michelle whilst getting treatment.
19-11-10 - Ronin had his eye surgery today. Cost was approx $1,000
17/12/10 - Mark was very pleased with Ronin’s progress when Michelle took him today for his review at SASH.
Ronin has a lot more movement in his eye overall since his surgery 4 weeks ago. His eye is still a bit inflamed as it is early days after his surgery and his eye is still healing. His eye is being treated 4 hourly with antibiotic cream. He is having periodic reviews with Mark, our ophthalmologist at SASH, and at our local clinic, Kirrawee vet. He is due to go back to the ophthalmologist for a check up at the end of February.and will require follow up surgery. We’re hoping his surgery will improve his vision and his comfort level.
Ronin is such a special little boy…the most smoochy kitten-boy I’ve ever seen. He runs up to you, jumps up on you lap and flops down like a rag doll….very , very cute. He well deserves a very special home.
Again we would like to acknowledge and thank Dr Mark Billson and SASH for their support of Ronin including subsidising his treatment costs.
September 2011- Ronin is doing well since last surgery. He doesn’t require any drops at present but this may be needed from time to time.Ronin has partial sight in his affected eye but it doesn’t affect his daily life. Ronin tears around the house like a mad thing and is a healthy smoochy boy. He loves other cats and would love a home with a mate. Ronin needs to be kept as an indoor cat due to his affected eyesight.
We would also like to acknowledge Dr Bill Illkin and Kirrawee Vet Hospital for supporting SPR&A and Ronin. Every week Dr Bill reviews Ronin’s eye, carefully examining and photographing it, in order to track the changes. He always takes great care, giving Ronin plenty of his time, even when the surgery is obviously busy. For the last 9 sessions of treatment, he hasn’t even charged us anything. We are very grateful for his support and know that with the expert care of Dr Bill and Dr Mark that we will get the best outcome possible for our little warrior, Ronin, who was named by his foster carer. Ronin is named after a famous Samurai warrior..and Ronin is indeed a little warrior, very brave thoughout all his eye treatment, and the best patient ever. He never complains about getting the cream in his eye, and he is the best smoocher, just loving to cuddle up on your shoulder, purring his little heart out. He is looking for a very special home. He will require an indoor home but other than that should not have too many special needs. You wouldn’t even know he had a problem with his eye to see him tear around the house at 100 miles an hour just like any other kitten his age! If you are interested in offering this special boy a home, please complete a Catmatch form at this link

auto-immune condition-causing all teeth to be extracted - cost $1165
If you can help by donating towards her treatment costs
Please click on this link below for online donations and specify 'DAISY'

Daisy has just had 3 days in hospital and 18 teeth out…yes…18 teeth.
Our poor little girl had to have all her teeth out.at a cost of $914.30. She has been diagnosed with an auto immune condition which meant all of her teeth were rotten and her mouth bloody and painful. Daisy also had to have biopsies on her mouth and black nipples. Results are pending but we expect them to be benign. Dr Briscoe has reported that Daisy is doing well and has been eating today.
Our grateful thanks to Dr Katherine Briscoe and Sydney University for their excellent care of Daisy. We would like to thank Sydney University who kindly subsidised Daisy’s treatment enabling us to access the specialist care she needed.

Bad Eye infection - costs $800
If you can help by donating towards Molly's care & operation
Please click on this link below for online donations and specify 'MOLLY'

Molly's eye is so bad that she is being kept at Kirrawee Veterinary Clinic for observation and further assessment so that we better understand what is causing Molly's condition. To date, Molly's expenses are around $400 and rising every day and we expect her overall costs to be over $1,000.
15/12/09 - Molly is likely to have a tooth extracted. Vet thinks her eye infection was secondary to this. She needs to be on a special diet for the time being to help clean her teeth
Total costs are currently estimated at approx $800.
Poor little Molly has had a difficult journey in life after being rejected by her owner's spouse after her owner died and being discarded at the pound. Molly was found by SPR&A in an appalling state and unable to eat unassisted for several months. It is a shame to see Molly suffering again after all she has been through although we are praying for a speedy recovery for Molly.
If you can assist with Molly's expenses, any amount would be appreciated.
Feb'10 - Wendy advised - Molly has now fully recovered and is looking beautiful. After Molly presented poorly early one Sunday morning, she was seen by Kirrawee Vet Clinic and was under the care of Bill Ilkin. Bill assessed Molly's eye condition as stemming from a problem with her teeth and in the first instance resolved the eye infection with a course of strong antibiotics and followed by cleaning her teeth.
It took over 4 weeks for Molly to fully recover, but she is now back to normal and is continually proving to be the most loving cat that I have ever fostered. Molly has beautiful eyes and looks lovingly at me whilst we watch TV together at night. Molly is a delight to care for.

Dec'09 - Big Purrs and thanks to Jen from Cronulla for their very generous donation of $400

He required a blood transfusion to save his life. He nearly died. ARH did a fantastic job to save his life.
22/2/10 – Linus has responded very well following his life saving blood transfusion. He was able to return home today. He had a follow up check up at Kirrawee vet hospital, and was able to have his drip removed. Linus is now home with his foster carer and eating well. He has been fleaed, wormed and is eating well and putting on weight, though still very thin, having come from the pound only days earlier.
8/3/10 - Linus responded well to his emergency blood transfusion, but suddenly deteriorated a week later. We rushed him to Kirrawee vet hospital but his little heart was too weak, and sadly he slipped away quickly. He was a precious little boy, so sweet and gentle. He will be in our hearts always.
Baby Linus’s treatment costs are estimated at approximately $800.
WARNING: Fleas can kill your pet. Please check your pet today for fleas and flea treat immediately if your pet has fleas.
Please make sure you flea and worm your pet regularly. Ask your vet for advice.

18/5/10 APPEAL FOR TOBY A LOVELY BOY RESCUED TODAY FROM DEATH ROW
seriously ill & needed urgent vet treatment
by clicking here: www.gofundraise.com.au/toby
brave Toby after his operation & recovering in foster care
It was initially felt that with the condition of this poor fellow's teeth (we were advised they were in bad condition) - he would not be a likely candidate for re-homing, but his lovely nature made us ask for a vet check anyway. The vet said his teeth are not too bad and are certainly not his biggest problem in any case. He is emaciated, has a lot of abscesses and needed immediate vet care. We have taken him out of the Pound under 'Duty of Care' and rushed him to the vet who put him immediately onto a drip.
We are seeking your help towards the cost of his health care so we can get him well enough for re-homing. If you can help us give this little fellow a second chance, we & Toby would be very grateful.
21/5/10 Toby was in very bad shape and had surgery yesterday. It was originally thought he may have a hernia and a heart murmur and there could have been complications. Fortunately the surgery went better than expected. He has no hernia, but he does have 2 lost testicles which will need to be corrected down the track when he is well enough for desexing. The vet said the suspected heart murmur must just have been because he was sooooo sick. He is doing really well now. He is still on a drip, but eating well and feeling
much better. He has a drain in for 5 days. he will be in hospital at Austral until next Monday, and then we will collect him to go into foster care. He will be getting all the love and attention that he seems to have missed out on in his short life. It seems that he just looks older at the moment because he is so thin and neglected. The vet actually thinks he is only about 18 mths old.
Our bill up to Monday is around $630....Toby is worth every cent.
4/6/10 Toby is recovering well but had to stay in boarding for a few days at a cost of $75 till a foster carer was available that had no other dogs. Toby loves people but not other dogs.
Today Toby left the vet and is now recuperating with Carrie in Eastern suburbs.
30/6/10 Toby has now been de-sexed, vaccinated & chipped at a cost of $170 and also needed further boarding at a cost of $105.
We are pleased to report that he has recovered well and is now ready to find his special furever home

KITTEN FOOD NOW NEEDED URGENTLY
Can you help with donations of Whiskas Kitten sachets and Royal Canin Babycat dry food?

2/2/10 - 3 kittens found dumped in a plastic bag
born 24/1/10 approx
See updates below

Chocco (f) Mia (f) Tigger (m)sadly died 12/2/10
Both kittens purr as soon as you touch them and are very easy to handle. They are still too small for adoption yet and have to gain some more weight, especially Chocco.
Both kittens have now been adopted.

dumped in a bucket of water & left to die
2 blues, 1 boy & 1 girl & 3 dark Torti girls.born 14/1/10
Kittens with super foster mum Matilda
They would love to be adopted with a brother/sister/friend if possible, It is an advantage to adopt kittens in pairs or into a home with an existing cat/kitten so they have company when everyone is at work and at school. It makes life easier as they will amuse & play with each other and not rely totally on their owner to amuse them.
The quick thinking and compassionate mother of 2 rallied her family and they dried the kittens then popped them inside their shirts to keep warm. Not stopping there they contacted SPRA then the whole family (mum, dad, 2 boys and Nanna) jumped into the car at 9.30 at night to bring the kittens to our Sue in Canterbury (Sue was, in the meantime madly sterilizing bottles, mixing formula and warming a make shift incubator). Yet their compassion and caring didn't stop there. This caring family have very kindly donated $50 which will go toward the cost of a vet check tomorrow to make sure the kittens didn't get pneumonia from being dumped into a bucket of water. It is estimated that these little darlings are only 10 days old as their eyes are just starting to open. Without the quick action of this lady and her lovely family these tiny babies would certainly have perished in the night. How lucky for them that this lady was actually outside at the time or this heinous act may have gone unnoticed until it was too late. They would not have survived the night.
The kittens drank well on their first feed and now are sleeping sound and warm. They are currently on bottle feeding every 3 hours around the clock. All going well, they will be available for adoption in around 8 weeks time.
25/1/10 - Everyone survived the night. made it to vet in the morning. Some fleas, couple of sticky eyes and 1 sneeze. All are on antibiotics for 'flu. Otherwise the vet is happy with their progress, all are active with good strong cries!! Tonight I will bath and flea treat them.
27/1/10 - They have gained an average of 25g in 2 1/2 days which is really fantastic. They all drink really well from the bottle which makes life easier. As usual Pepe the puppy is being wonderful and helping me toilet them and keep them clean - he also nudges them back toward me if he thinks they have 'swam' too far away. So far so good.
With any luck we may have a lactating mother for them on the weekend.
31/1/10 - Matilda, the surrogate mumma cat, is slowly coming around with much TLC pats, chin scratches and food bribery - she was a bit growly but did eventually consent to them suckling). More photos coming soon, the kittens are starting to hold up their heads now.
1/2/10 - Here are some new photos and names, Blue boy is Hugo, Blue/torti girl is Dior(perfume), pale faced torti girl is Chloe. Torti with white stripe on face is Coco Chanel,(perfume) last torti girl is Dolce (of Dolce & Gabanna perfumes)

6/2/10 - Re 3 new bag kittens - We were worried about little Chocco as she seemed very tired & listless. However in the last 24hrs she has rallied and has put on 20gm and is starting to walk. Matilda seems to have more milk today and is being a loving mum, even though she is not much more than a kitten herself.
12/2/10 - It is with great sadness I am reporting the passing of brave little Tigger. Tigger was always a calm little character, late to awake and loved to lie on his back and play with my fingers. We can never know what internal injuries may have happened to the poor little bag babies as they lay slowly suffocating inside that bag on such a hot day. All I can say is that Tigger was warm, happy and well loved in his short life and that he passed peacefully in his sleep.
All the other kittens are growing and developing well so far, here are some highlights.
Although little Chocco is still requiring syringe feeds, and she too is a little quiet, she is no longer the smallest kitten. Little Mia is playing well with the slightly older bucket babies and has learned to drink well from the bottle.

Little Dior is the first to start scratching at the kitty litter, although she hasn't yet peed on her own. Lovely Chloe is the fastest and loves running aroung the room and pouncing on the other kittens.
The ever patient super mum Matilda is looking much better. She is well enough to look after some of the kittens again(she has an injured teat which is being treated, poor mum) - especially little Chocco and the late Tigger. Matilda is really such a loving little cat, really loves a cuddle - even when it involves holding a compress to her sore teat!
22/2/10 - Hooray! all the kittens are now weaned and are doing very well indeed.
6/3/10 - Chloe, Dior, Hugo, Coco & Dolce have now moved to Chiz in Sutherland and are progressing very well.
Chocco and Mia are still with Sue in Canterbury as they need to gain more weight.
8/3/10 -
Chloe - Lightning quick! Miss Chloe is a ton of fun and is always at the front of the cage trying to talk to her foster mum!
Coco Chanel - Very outgoing little one! Adventurous and likes to explore. Loves to play and hang out with her sisters & brothers as well as her foster mum!
Dior - loves to sleep! She also loves hanging out with her brother Hugo and the other cats too. She's a prettty groovy chick!
Dolce - is timid at first but loves a good cuddle and a little play! So sweet and gentle!
Hugo - is a larikin. Loves hanging out with his sisters...he's the only boy of the bunch and is nice and friendly!

June 2010 - Hugo has been adopted
July 2010 Chocco has been adopted

15/12/09 APPEAL FOR RONIN
Serious Eye ulcer from cat flu with possibility of losing his eye.
If you can help by donating towards Ronin's care & operation
Please click on this link below for online donations and specify 'RONIN'

or completeRemittance advice - Donations.doc

He is currently having to be reviewed by a vet every third day as his eye is changing on a daily basis. So far his treatment costs are about $500, but with eye surgery they will be much higher, possibly $500-$1000 more.
21/1/10 - Ronin will definitely need surgery to one eye, but it is unclear if he may have to have the eye removed or just adhesions removed. He has recently made some good progress and Dr Bill Ilkin, who has been patiently monitoring and photographing his progress every week, is pleased with his progress. He definitely has some vision in his bad eye, so it’s a bit of a wait and see situation at present. We’re not sure when his surgery will be, as sometimes Mark likes kittens to grow more, like Azure did, before he does the surgery.
His next check up will be end of February. He will likely need more surgery down the track.
Ronin is such a special little boy…the most smoochy kitten-boy I’ve ever seen. He runs up to you, jumps up on you lap and flops down like a rag doll….very , very cute. I hope we can eventually find a very special home for him.
Please follow Ronin’s progress ……….
Again we would like to acknowledge and thank Dr Mark Billson and SASH for their support of Ronin including subsidising his treatment costs.
He will be looking for a very special home when his eye treatment is complete. He will require an indoor home but other than that should not have too many special needs. You wouldn’t even know he had a problem with his eye to see him tear around the house at 100 miles an hour just like any other kitten his age! If you are interested in considering this special boy for a home, please complete a Catmatch form at this link

SCRUFFY

Sep'09 APPEAL FOR SCRUFFY
Very sick and lost little budgie - costs $500
sadly, crossed over 3/9/09
Somehow he found himself out in the open during the terrible winds last Wednesday, being blown around like a piece of litter, slammed into a tree and suffering a sprained wing. Some creature (perhaps a stray cat) then managed to pull out his long tail feathers which would've been very painful and he was lucky not to have bled to death. Still he escaped only to sustain an injury to his beak - probably from a larger bird attacking him. Yet somehow little Scruffy found himself exhausted and alone on the ground in the yard of George E. who kindly took him in, kept him warm and contacted Sydney Pet Rescue and Adoption to try and find his family.
Little Scruffy fought so hard but his battle isn't yet over. He has liver failure, either from starvation or infection. He can no longer maintain his body temperature and is so weak and sick he can barely sit on a perch.
Scruffy has received some emergency vet care but needs further diagnostic tests and treatment. His costs so far are $180 for the emergency care, the diagnostic tests will cost a further $235 and then there will be treatment costs to follow...
Budgies have the same intelligence as a dog and about the same lifespan. They are lively, inquisitive and playful. They are large characters in small packages. No matter how sick and scared Scruffy feels he hasn't once tried to bite his carers!
30/9/09 - Brave little Scruffy has started responding to his emergency treatment and is feeling better. He has started exploring his cage and playing with his carousel toy. Tonight he is well enough to have his mites treated so he is a lot more comfortable. Scruffy is less fearful now and allowed me to give him a nice belly scratch.
2 Oct'09 - Little Scruffy continues to battle bravely to get well. When we went to the vet today for his tests he was too sick to have them BUT the good news is it became possible to diagnose one of the infections that were hurting him. He has come home on 2 types of antibiotics which should help him feel better soon. Today he fluffed up his show feathers for the vet - she was VERY impressed at how handsome he looked!
There is a possibility he may need a hospital stay if he is unable to maintain his weight - one of the infections damages the intestines so he can't absorb food and we just need to see how he goes over the weekend. He is on gatorade and sweet tea to get some energy into him - and some electrolytes as he will have lost some with his diarrhoea.
3 Oct'09 - Scruffy is quite sick and is in hospital over the week end. He is having fluids and special care with our Avian vet. He is having supportive care, hoping he will improve enough to have some more diagnostics done to clarify exactly what is wrong with him.
Estimate of costs to date approx $500
3 Oct'09 - Sadly, despite everyone's best efforts poor Scruffy passed away in the night (Sat). He fought so hard but was just too small & weak.
RIP Scruffy
We are very grateful to our vet for his dedication and care of our little Scruffy

She is seriously ill at the Animal Referral Hospital
Sadly our little Lily passed away on 20/8/09 after her brave fight for life
Her final diagnosis was FIP
"I don't feel well"
14/8/09 - Lily has just been taken seriously ill to the Animal Referral Hospital at Strathfield. She is just over 6mths old.
Lily was desexed 3 wks ago and has had increasing symptoms since that time. Her owner loves Lily but as she cannot afford the urgent specialist vet care, we have taken Lily back into our care as a surrender, on compassionate grounds.
Mark, the emergency vet at ARH is not sure what is wrong with Lily at this point, but she is in serious condition, though still alert. She has lost a lot of weight.
It may be a case that the stress of de-sexing has caused symptoms associated with an underlying condition. Lily will need some tests to help establish her diagnosis. She is slightly dehydrated and will probably get some IV fluids tonight.
We urgently need to raise money to help cover her specialist care. The estimate for her treatment is $800-$1200 to begin with, but this could go higher depending on her diagnosis. We are all hoping and praying that little Lily will be alright. We know she is in excellent hands at ARH.
Stay tuned for updates on this precious little girl who is trying so hard to get well.
Midnight – Mark advised us that Lily is on fluids and stable.. She has a lot of general symptoms, but the two most worrying symptoms are her “enormous” kidneys and slightly increased bile metabolism. We are praying for our little girl to be alright. We are hoping an internal medicine specialist may be available to advise about her treatment over the weekend. Mark says she is a tough little cat. We are hoping this will help her make it through.
15/8/09 – 11am - Sonia advised us this morning that Lily is a little better. She was able to nibble some Science Diet AD (Special food for sick little cats).
An x ray shows her kidneys are only slightly enlarged. They originally seemed larger because she is only a little cat, and has lost weight recently. Her blood tests do not indicate signs of kidney disease which is positive. Her eyes are cloudy and the reason for this is unclear at this point. She had an FIV and Leukaemia test and this was negative. After being on fluids all night, she now weighs 1.8kgs. her glucose reading is normal. Her diagnosis is still unclear. She will be seeing Internal Medicine Specialist Dr Narelle Brown on Monday. She also needs some more blood tests which need to be sent off to Perth, so this could take a few days to get the results. Everyone is praying for our precious girl, who is trying so hard to get well.
"Me on a drip"
Maria took this photo of Lily today.
18.8.08 – 6pm - Narelle, the internal Medicine Specialist, advised that results received today indicated that toxoplasmosis is not indicated.
Lily’s temperature continues to fluctuate somewhat, and it has been on the high side of normal. Lily has been having a pick at a little chicken on a regular basis, which is a positive sign. She is receiving some cortisone treatment which we hope will help. Her symptoms are still being investigated. She is still stable and being oh, so brave. Our precious baby girl. We’re praying for you Lily
20.8.09 - Lily is stable and she is hanging in there. Her temperature is reported to be normal. She started on a new course of treatment last night.
This has not made a significant difference to her appetite yet. She is still only picking at a little food. It is possible she may need a blood transfusion and tube feeding, which will be expensive. At this stage it seems likely that our precious little girl has FIP which is extremely serious. Unfortunately, we understand there is no way to definitively diagnose this conditon in a live cat, diagnosis generally relies on a process of ruling out what conditions it isn’t, and considering the profile of symptoms. Lily’s specialist has advised us there are very limited treatment options if it is FIP. We are still hoping that perhaps it could be something else less serious. Lily will see Dr Julia Beatty at Sydney University tomorrow for a second opinion, before returning to ARH where she will continue to receive care. We will have to start making some serious decisions about Lily’s future treatment and care after we get a second opinion. We must focus on what is in Lily’s best interest considering her capacity for recovery and quality of life. We love this little girl and will do everything possible to look after her.
21.8.09 - Sadly our precious Lily passed away yesterday before we could collect her and take her for her second opinion at Sydney University.
She had been reported to be stable for the period she was at ARH, and her vital signs good, although her temperature had continued to fluctuate a bit.
During the night prior to her passing, despite her being kept as warm as possible, Lily’s body temperature dropped and she slipped away peacefully. The emergency vet advised us that she had been purring the night before, and was her sweet and gentle self. She was so brave and tried so hard to get well.It is such a heart breaking outcome for us.
We are still waiting on the results of the last lot of tests including biopsy to try and confirm her diagnosis. It is important to clarify her diagnosis if possible, as Lily was with her sibling and there could be implications for her management.
Lily was finally diagnosed as having died from FIP
Lily’s costs to date are $2,679 at ARH . Pets at Peace will do a cremation for us costing $165. Lily was precious to us, and her life was important.
The last thing we can do for her is to lay her to rest respectfully, and this is important for her foster carers too, as it offers them some form of comfort at this distressing time.
We offer our condolences to Lily’s family who surrendered her back to us, which was the kindest thing they could do, when it was clear that her treatment costs would not be manageable for them. They gave her a loving home for 5 months before she became ill only in the last 4 weeks. She was precious to them.
We would like to thank the Animal Referral Hospital including Dr Narelle Brown and the team of emergency vets and nurses who gave Lily the best care possible, around the clock. Lily’s time in hospital was reasonably comfortable. Maria, our Foster Care Support Co-ordinator visited her most days, and made sure that Lily knew how much we all loved her. ARH kindly rang us often twice a day to update us on her progress.
We are very grateful to the Animal Referral Hospital who have generously discounted their services. Lily's final costs came to $2,192.50 which included $165 for her cremation by Pets at Peace.
The balance of Lily's donations ($292.50) will be put towards the next pet who needs specialist treatment. Possibly Andy or Azure who may need eye surgery soon.
We would also like to thank all of Lily’s supporters who so generously donated to help us cover Lily’s treatment costs. We thank you so much for caring about Lily and supporting us in our time of need. Your support was critical to us being able to ensure she received optimal treatment and the best chance of survival.

needing surgery for cleft palette
27/5/09 - LeRoy had his soft cleft palette surgery last Friday at SASH. This is generally a big surgery and we had to wait for LeRoy to grow big enough to have it. In the meantime the poor little guy has been coping with a few infections caused by food going back up through his nose. He was very brave and everyone at SASH fell in love with him .He went home yesterday. I spoke with the specialist, Dr Andrew Marchevsky today and he is very pleased with the outcome. LeRoy will be reviewed in 2 wks time.We hope that little LeRoy will now be able to enjoy eating his food without it going up his nose and causing infections.
Cost to date is $1,230.00. (The new owner has donated $500 towards his treatment).
We are enormously grateful to SASH who generously subsidised LeRoy’s surgery for us, giving us a 50% discount to ensure we were able to afford the specialist care that he needed. Their level of care and kindness is much appreciated.

receiving urgent neurological & medical care - ongoing
If you would like to help KitKat by donating towards his ongoing care
Please click on this link below for online donations and specify 'KIT-KAT'

Kit Kat had a one week stay at the Animal Referral Hospital under the expert care of Dr Narelle Brown, Internal Medicine Specialist. He needed enemas every day to help him eliminate, and he had to have his bladder expressed daily. His prognosis was grim despite the excellent care he received at ARH. After leaving ARH, Kit Kat was reviewed by a neurologist, but this did not offer much hope either. It was thought that his chances of improvement were limited. Despite a poor prognosis, we remained hopeful that he might improve over the longer term, and hence we have continued with his treatment rather than considering euthanasia as an option.
After leaving the Animal Referral Hospital, Kit Kat had a 3 week stay at Kirrawee vet clinic under the expert care of Dr Bill Ilkin. Here he made some improvement but progress was slow, but we believe this is not unexpected for the type of condition he has. He has had a couple of periodic stays here in boarding when his foster carer was unavailable, which has provided a good opportunity for the clinic to assess his progress. At his recent review Bill, our vet, advised that Kit Kat had made surprisingly good progress. It is now more than 2 months since he has needed an enema.
We are pleased with Kit Kat’s progress and glad that we have persevered with his rehabilitation. Kit Kat’s incontinence has improved and he does use his litter tray, although he is still on expensive medication to improve his bowel movements, and he does still need us to help him empty his bladder This just means that we need to toilet him similarly to how we would a young kitten which doesn’t have its mother. We wipe his little bot bot with some damp toilet paper, after he has finished his meal, and he wees reliably. We do this in his litter tray to reinforce his toileting habits. He does need his tail end bathed regularly to ensure he remains clean, but this is not too difficult as he is a co-operative little boy who seems to appreciate that we are doing this to help him.We hope that he will continue to improve over the coming months.
Kit Kat has now started going out to the cat enclosure with some of the other foster cats. He had the biggest look of surprise on his little face when we first started him going out into the enclosure. He gets on well with the other foster cats, though we only leave him with them for a few hours at a time. He still has his own room, with a nice warm heater at night, and all his favourite toys.
10/5/09 - Kit Kat's treatment costs so far total approx $1600
September '09 - Kit Kat uses his litter tray, but still has some continence issues, however he is much easier to manage than 3 months ago.
We still put him in his tray and help him manage his toileting. He has only required one microlax enema in the last 4 months.
Everyone loves Kit Kat.
November'09 - Kit Kat is a happy and energetic little boy & is almost full grown now. He shares a room with Muffy, Possum and Sootie whom you can see on the website.
They go out into the cat enclosure during the day and Kit Kat likes to climb up into the hammocks. He tears along the path of the enclosure at 100 miles an hour.
He still needs to be on his special medicine and he still needs help to do his wees in the litter tray. It does take a bit of effort to manage him, but he is worth it.
We would love to find someone who could take him for fostering, if not a new home. His condition would be manageable for a devoted owner.
He’s a beautiful boy and such a darling. He has the most wonderful golden brown eyes.
We are very grateful indeed to the Animal Referral Hospital for their dedicated care of Kit Kat. The Animal Referral Hospital also generously subsidised Kit Kat’s specialist treatment which has assisted us to manage his urgent medical treatment costs.

- Maria took Thomas a new toy to snuggle up with, whilst in hospital -
As at 1/1/08- his treatment costs have reached $2,450. We know this is a lot of money, but we can’t turn our backs on Thomas as he is trying so hard and the indications are that he is improving.
26/12/08
- Little Thomas is receiving specialist care at the Animal Referral Hospital, South Strathfield. His tests revealed that he had a seriously bad side effect from a drug ,which he had previously been treated with, for a non serious condition. This morning, Scott from ARH reported that Thomas had improved even better than expected. He is still on a drip however and needs further intensive care. The nurse reported that he is a wonderful little patient and everyone there loves him. Thomas is alert and eating quite well. We all hope and pray that he will recover with no long term problems.
28/12/08
-Thomas had more tests today. The Animal Referral Hospital advised that Thomas’s red blood count has improved, as have his enzyme levels. This is great news as we feared he would need a blood transfusion.Thomas is still on a drip and he will be seeing an internal medicine specialist tomorrow. Despite all this, Thomas remains a happy and friendly little boy. He is alert and eating well. The doctors are pleased with his progress. When we ring each day to see how Thomas is, everyone seems to know him, and they say…”who,,,that smoochy little boy!” Everyone loves Thomas and knows how hard he is trying to get better.
30/12/08
-Thomas’s specialist, Dr Nigel Swift, rang today with some very good news! – Thomas’s test results were normal today. We are all very relieved indeed.
Thomas is still on a drip, but Nigel expects that he will be off the drip tomorrow. Thomas is expected to be released from hospital soon. He is likely to need antibiotics for a few weeks. Maria, our Foster Care Support Co-ordinator visited Thomas in hospital tonight, and took the above photos of our brave little boy.
6/1/09
-Thomas has recovered well and is on antibiotics for a couple of weeks. The ARH have kindly welcomed little Thomas as a guest for the time being, until they see if they may have a special home for him. All paws crossed for Thomas! In the meantime he is enjoying visits from our Foster Care Support Co-ordinator , Maria, and lots of cuddles from the ARH staff.
14/1/09
-The Animal Referral Hospital was a generous sponsor of little Thomas’s life saving treatment. Their generous support made it possible for Thomas to receive optimal treatment. They were also kind enough to welcome Thomas to stay as a guest whilst he was waiting to meet his new mum. We would like to thank Dr Nigel Swift and the team at ARH for their expert care and very generous support of little Thomas. Special thanks to Dr Nigel who even found little Thomas his new home! Big purrs and head butts from Thomas and all at Sydney Pet Rescue x x x

BAILEY's Appeal - 7 wks old pup suddenly taken seriously ill
(Appeal now closed)
Baby Bailey, approx 7 wks old, another of Jenna's 7 babies, became seriously ill last night. Ben, from Princes Hwy Vet Hospital, had to go out at 1am this morning to provide emergency treatment.
He is still unwell this morning so we had to take him to the Animal Referral Hospital at Strathfield where he needed to see a specialist and is currently having some tests. We are unsure at this stage as to what is wrong with him. He did seem a lot better this morning compared to last night, so we are hoping for some good news soon. He will need to stay in hospital at least overnight.

18/7/08 evening
Dr Nigel Swift, Internal Medicine Specialist at the Animal Referral Hospital, just rang to give us his second update for the day on Bailey.
Bailey has had various tests today and Nigel is pleased with the results so far. Bailey has not had any more seizures and he is resting comfortably. His sight is still recovering after his seizures last night, but this is normal, and it can take a few days for it to return to normal. Bailey may need further tests, depending on his progress. Bailey is getting lots of cuddles from the nurses, and he is enjoying that very much.
19/7/08
Bailey was well enough to come home from hospital this afternoon.
Nigel says his sight is slowly returning, after his seizure, which is normal. He is eating well, and happy to to be home with mumma Jenna and his brothers and sisters. He may need to have a further test through the week.

Bailey says a big thank you to all the wonderful people who gave so generously to help cover his treatment costs

BOSCO's APPEAL-4wk old pup seriously ill in intensive care

We had to rush Bosco, our little 4 weeks old pup, to the Animal Referral Hospital, 444 Liverpool Rd, Strathfield tonight.
Bosco is there having tests and will stay there at least overnight. His treatment cost up until tomorrow morning is $660. He may need to see a specialist tomorrow. They are still investigating to find out what is wrong with him. The vet is hopeful that he will be OK and we are hoping for good news in the morning.
Bosco's mum Jenna, a foxy x, was heavily pregnant when we rescued her from Death Row and gave birth to 7 gorgeous pups.
25/6/08 -
Bosco is still too seriously ill to be moved to our local vet and is undergoing more tests. We are all very worried for him, but hoping for the best.
25/6/08 -
I spoke to the Animal Referral Hospital tonight. He has had various tests and has been diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia, from his mumma's milk going down the the wrong way, into his lungs. This is a very serious condition. Bosco is doing better than last night, but still on Oxygen.
He will need to remain at the specialist hospital for at least a few more days.
27/6/08 -
Baby Bosco needed to be kept on Oxygen for a few days, but he was well enough to leave hospital last night. Dr Narelle Brown, one of the Animal Referral Hospital’s Internal Medicine Specialists, took great care of Baby Bosco, updating us regularly on his progress. Little Bosco even learnt to eat solid foods before he left hospital! Bosco is doing much better. His mumma Jenna and 6 brothers and sisters are all glad to have him home safe and sound. His care finished up costing us $630. He is a very precious little man, and we consider this was money well spent.
If you would like to donate towards Bosco's treatment costs, a donation form can be downloaded here

Baxter, our gorgeous kitten, has a bad ulcer in both eyes resulting from cat flu which he had when coming from the pound.
He will be having serious and potentially dangerous surgery to his right eye which has a ruptured ulcer. The surgery is dangerous due to the amount of time he will be under anaesthetic,The surgery will be costing us approx $1500
Wed 28/5/08:
Baxter had a corneal graft performed by Dr Mark Billson from the Small animal Specialist Hospital at Nth Ryde.
Baxter has not long come out of surgery with the ophthalmologist.. He handled the anaesthetic well and is now awake. Mark did the corneal graft, which was the longer surgery, and was pleased with how this went, although Baxter's eye was very inflamed.
Everyone said Baxter was a "Star". He is being very well cared for and looking forward to some dinner
He is such a precious little boy, only 9wks old, and we are all praying that his surgery will be successful and he will fully recover the use of his eyes.
Sat 31/5/08
Baxter went to SASH specialist clinic today for his check up. Mark, the ophthalmologist, says his eye is looking good, with no sign of infection. The graft looks like it is taking well. Baxter has another check up on Tuesday and again on Friday.
-Baxter is the youngest patient he has ever performed a corneal graft on.
Tue 3/6/08
Baxter went to SASH specialist clinic for another check up today. Mark is very pleased with his progress, He says the corneal graft has taken well. Baxter will have another check up on Friday.
If all continues to go well, we can start to relax a bit more and he won't need to go for check ups so regularly.
-Baxter has been very brave and is an excellent patient. He is still very playful and full of energy.
Mon 23.6.08
Baxter went back to SASH for his check up today. Dr Mark Bilson was very pleased with his progress. Baxter now only needs approximately another month of ointment in his eye. Mark says his eye should continue to improve over the next month. We are hoping Baxter may only have a small vision impairment when he is fully recovered.
SASH has been a very generous sponsor of Baby Baxter's eye surgery, and saving Baxter's vision finished up costing us just under $1000 (a bit extra for his local vet costs). Baby Baxter is a wonderful little boy, so placid, sweet, gentle and brave. He would likely have suffered a lot of pain with his ruptured ulcer. Saving Baby Baxter's sight, and getting the best possible outcome for him has been an excellent investment and money well spent. Now Baby Baxter will be able to get maximum enjoyment, for many years to come, as he looks up at the blue sky and watches the butterflies play.

- SASH is located at 1 Richardson Place, North Ryde 2113.

Sadly Molly & George's owner died and now they are looking for a new home they can call their own.
Molly is a very big girl and a bit of a smoocher. George is Molly's other half and they have lived together for the last eight years. It would be great if the two of them could find a new home together.George is a lovely boy, he tends to keep to himself a bit but will give his new owner love and friendship."We have stuck together through thick and thin. We would love a second chance at a loving fur-ever home.
We are trying sooooo hard to get well. If you think you have room, in your heart and your home, for two lovely cats like us, please complete and return the attached CatMatch form, Cat Match adoption Enquiry-16Apr08.doc or call Wendy on 0410 018 469"
George and Molly were seriously ill, malnourished & flea ridden and feeling very miserable indeed at the time of their rescue from Death Row at the pound. They had to be rushed to our vet and remain in hospital, where they are both on a drip. They required blood tests, and will require syringe feeding and intensive rehabilitation over an extended period. – but they are worth it!
After being part of a family for a number of years, how sad it is, firstly to think that they should finish up on Death Row at the pound, when their owner passed away and no one made any provision for them, and secondly, how distressing to see two such lovely cats in such a seriously deteriorated state.
They are both gorgeous cats who are counting on us to help them recover and find the loving homes they deserve.
.......................................................
3/3/08
After a week in hospital, with both cats on a drip, Georgie and Molly were released from hospital today. They will continue their recovery in foster care, where they will receive all the love and care they deserve. They are looking so much better, but will require syringe feeding 3-4 times per day, and intensive care over the next several weeks.
Georgie and Molly’s medical expenses to date, are approx $1,100.00
27/5/08
We have just had an update from Wendy to say that Molly and Georgie are now fully recovered, extremely well and healthy. After months of syringe feeding, little Georgie now eats like every meal is his last. He initially started out just eating Whiskas biscuits and nothing else. However, over the last month or so, he has taken a liking to fresh meat and prawns and of course his waist line is expanding every day.
Georgie is full of energy and loves life.
Just like Georgie, little Molly is also happy and healthy and loves her brother Georgie. Molly loves to sleep in the sun but is also anxious to leave her rather confined surroundings. Molly has magnificent tabby and tortoiseshell markings on a background of white (just like her brother who looks like someone has dipped his face in marmalade).
"If there is anyone interested in 2 loving & beautiful lap cats who have never scratched or misbehaved in the whole time that I have had them, can they please contact Wendy on 0410 018 469. Both cats deserve a loving home and would ideally suit an older person or someone who has children because neither Molly nor George have ever shown any bad behaviour. Both cats are simply angelic and are desperate to find someone who has the time to show them some love and affection. Please contact me to arrange a visit"
